“The Magic Flute”, a film directed by Florian Sigl

After Ingmar Bergman and Kenneth Branagh opuses, a new film dedicated to Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte is currently being shot in Bavaria and in Salzburg. The film is directed by Florian Sigl.

The Magic Flute is set in Europe today, and follows a 17-year-old boy, played by Jack Wolfe (The Witcher), who travels from London to the Austrian Alps to begin studies in classical singing at the legendary Mozart boarding school. Once there, he happens upon a centuries-old portal in the school’s library one night, which catapults him into the fantastic world of Mozart’s opera.

As Prince Tamino, Tim meets the shrewd birdcatcher Papageno (played by Iwan Rheon, from Game Of Thrones). With his help, he has to endure dangerous adventures to free Princess Pamina (Asha Banks) from the clutches of Prince Sarastro (Morris Robinson) and his unscrupulous henchman Monostatos (Stefan Konarske). French actress Stéfi Celma (Call My Agent) plays Papagena and Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus) plays Dr. Longbow, the headmaster of the boarding school in Austria.

French Soprano Sabine Devieilhe plays the Queen of the Night, and the cast also includes Rolando Villazón !

The Magic Flute is expected to be released by Christmas 2022.
