At the end of 1766, The Mozarts return to Salzburg, after an absence of more than three years.

In 1767, Wolfgang is 11 years old and writes his first two major vocal works : oratorio Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots K.35 and Apollo et Hyacinthus K.38. Among other compositions this year : Cantata Grabmusik K.42 and 4 Concertos for harpsichord (K.37, K.39, K.40, K.41), orchestrations of sonatas by various German composers.

In September 1767, Leopold sets out on another trip, to Vienna. In Olomouc, Mozart falls ill with smallpox. After recovering, he writes his first  first four-movement Symphony (K.43).
